Research
My current areas of research interest include medical
image processing (Brain MRI scans), medical device designing and mathematical
modeling of physiological processes (See my Twitter List and Weekly Newspaper on Medical Devices), and
the applications of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence to
Healthcare Data (See my Twitter
List and Weekly Newspaper on Data Science).
In the past, I have worked in the field of Quantum
Chromodynamics. I have produced half a dozen graduate students and three
dozen undergraduate students with research publications. Click here to find more about my research. Click here to see the current list of
publications (pdf file, last updated: 2021).
Teaching
I lecture on a variety of subjects including
Engineering Design, Robotics, Physics, and Science & Technology Policy.
In the last 15 years, I have offered courses at Tec de Monterrey (Mexico),
the State University of New York, Johns Hopkins University Krieger School of
Arts and Sciences, Princeton University, and the City University of New York.

Science and Computer Science
|
Introduction
to Data Science,
A semester long course on the subject.
|
Machine Learning
A new course (under development, and not offered yet), focusing on
Deep Learning.
|
Deep
Learning with MATLAB
Though Deep Learning can be applied to a large variety of
problems, here we focus on image processing, including medical image
processing. Of particular interest are 4D CT lung scans, CT Perfusion and
CT Angiographic brain scans, Brain MRI, etc.
|
Artificial
Intelligence in Films
The purpose of this short course is to discuss the ethics of AI,
using movies as examples. Starting from the sci-fi movie Metropolis,
attempts have been made to depict a world dominated by technology,
venturing into a future where intelligent robots roam the earth and
underprivileged citizens suffer due to the high cost of living. The
discussion will revolve around four movies, each related to AI/Robotics but
focused on a different theme.
|
YouTube AI in Films collection
A collection of some of the most powerful films which
deal with these topics.
|
AI
in Healthcare
A specialized list of readings in my personal field of AI in
Healthcare.
|
Machine
